Chamomile conjures thoughts of cosy evenings and soothing mugs of tea; however Roman Chamomile is one of the oldest recorded medicinal herbs and has been used for centuries to treat a host of ailments. Ancient Egyptians used the calming properties of this attractive plant as a cure for fever and Chamomile has been a staple remedy for British herbalists for generations. Native to Western Europe, the Chamomile plant is cultivated commercially in the UK, France and Hungary. The essential oil is extracted from the attractive white flowers and stalks of the Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) plant, which when distilled, release a sweet, fruity and herbaceous fragrance.
