ChinaMed Motherhood FT 2 Formula 78c
This formula is based on the traditional formulas Shou Tai Wan (Fetus Longevity Pill), and Tai Yuan Yin (Nourish the Fetus Formula), which protect against miscarriage due to deficiency of the Kidney, and miscarriage due to deficiency of the Qi and Blood, respectively. Added to this are herbs that have a long history of empirical use in stabilising the fetus and preventing against miscarriage.
The Qi tonifying herbs Codonopsis pilosula (dang shen) and Atractylodes macrocephala (bai zhu) promote the growth of the fetus. In addition, the latter herb, together with Perilla frutescens (zi su geng) and Scutellaria baicalensis (huang qin) have been shown to have a relaxing effect on the uterus. Paeonia lactiflora (bai shao) relieves pain and relaxes muscle spasms (both smooth and skeletal muscle). Eucommia ulmoides (du zhong), Dipsacus asper (xu duan) and Cuscuta hygrophilae (tu si zi) promote the growth of both the uterus as well as the fetus through increasing the endocrine secretions of the corpus luteum.

Cautions
- Not suitable for cases with signs of Heat (thirst, dark and scanty urination, constipation with dry stool, deep red tongue with a dry yellow coat, rapid pulse).
- Rest in bed during the acute stage and restrict physical exertion to a minimum. Refrain from sexual activity as well as excessive stimulation or excitement for the duration of the pregnancy.
- Contains Glycyrrhiza, which potentiates prednisone and corticosteroids by prolonging steroid biological half-life; caution in patients with hypertension.
